What are the characteristics of DuPont Lycra fabric?

2021-12-09
Lycra (LYCRA) is an artificial elastic fiber exclusively invented and produced by DuPont in the United States. It can be freely stretched 4 to 7 times, and it will quickly return to its original length after the external force is released. It cannot be used alone, and can be interwoven with any other man-made or natural fibers. It does not change the appearance of the fabric, is an invisible fiber, and can greatly improve the performance of the fabric. At present, as long as the clothing that adopts Lycra will be hung with a triangle tag, this tag has also become a symbol of high quality.

According to the quality specification introduced by DuPont, Lycra is different from traditional elastic fibers in that it has a stretchability of up to 500% and can be restored to its original shape. In other words, this kind of fiber can be stretched very easily, but it can cling to the surface of the human body after recovery, and the restraint force on the human body is very small. Lycra fiber can be used with any fabric, including wool, hemp, silk and cotton, to increase the close-fitting, elasticity, and loose nature of the fabric, making it more flexible when moving. Moreover, Lycra is different from most spandex yarns. It has a special chemical structure and will not grow mold in a humid and heat sealed space after being wet.

Therefore, Lycra is called a "friendly" fiber, not only because it can be able to fuse with natural and man-made fibers, but also can increase the comfort of fabrics or clothing, the feel of the body, the freedom of movement and the service life.

Lycra has outstanding stretchability. For knitwear, its multi-directional extension is determined by the fabric itself, and what Lycra brings is only the elasticity of stretching and recovery. Woven fabrics are only malleable in the direction in which they are woven into Lycra, such as warp knitting (straight direction) or weft knitting (horizontal direction). The trousers benefit from the warp elasticity, while the two-way stretch woven fabric with Lycra provides great comfort and freedom of movement in both directions. Therefore, by adding Lycra to women's garments such as trousers and jackets, the folds can be easily restored automatically, the clothes are more sleek and not easy to be deformed, and they are flexible and free, and you can feel a free new body. Even rigorous suits, jackets, etc. are made without the slightest sense of urgency and cramps. Knitwear such as sweatshirts, underwear, fitness pants and other knitwear add a little Lycra, which is both fit and comfortable. It stretches freely on the body and can move with you.

Lycra has a wide range of applications and can add extra comfort to all types of ready-to-wear garments, including underwear, customized jackets, suits, skirts, trousers, knitwear, etc. It greatly improves the hand feel, drape and crease recovery ability of the fabric, improves the comfort and fit of all kinds of clothes, and makes all kinds of clothes show new vitality, especially the Lycra jointly developed by DuPont and the International Wool Bureau. The wool blended material provides a brand-new concept for the textile industry in the late 20th and 21st centuries.
